A contact lens examination differs from a comprehensive eye examination in that the patient is fitted for contact lenses and is given a separate prescription for the contacts in addition to a prescription for glasses, whereas during a comprehensive examination, the patient will be given a prescription for glasses only. During a contact lens examination, Dr. Wise will check the patient’s corneas to make sure they are healthy enough to wear contacts.
After determining a prescription, Dr. Wise will issue a pair of diagnostic lenses that best suit the patient’s individual needs. After a week or two, the patient will return for a complimentary follow-up visit, where the comfort and prescription of the contact lenses is evaluated after continued wear. When both Dr. Wise and the patient are satisfied with the performance of the contacts, the patient will be able to order the prescribed contact lenses.
